Dyno, the cocker spaniel puppy, is recovering from a trip down the loo. Photo: YouTube.com

Four-year-old Daniel Blair thought he was being a good boy when he decided to give a week-old cocker spaniel puppy a bath. Unfortunately, the child tried to bathe the puppy in the toilet, and, when he pulled the chain, the tiny pup was flushed right down!

Sky News reports that neighbors were asked not to flush for fear of sending the pup out to the sewer while the fire brigade and RSPCA tried -- but were unable -- to rescue the puppy, which was trapped in a pipe 20 yards from the home.

Drain experts Dyno-Rod were called in for the rescue. They used specialist camera gear to locate the pooch, after which they were able to nudge the animal to a manhole cover so the firemen could grab him.

The puppy, now aptly name Dyno, is recovering, and little Daniel is "so, so sorry." But hey, he learned a lesson -- puppies go in the tub and poopies go in the loo.

Everyone who is saying that kids need to be watched 24/7 must be living in a dream land.. In that case how in the world are the parents ever suppose to get sleep. You can't keep your eyes on them all the time, sometimes you have to look away...Accidents can happen in seconds and they do happen.. If they didn't then we as humans would be perfect.. I know I am not perfect and I sure all of you people who have made stupid comments are not perfect as well. The dog was 4 weeks old and sure I would not let my 4 year old handle that dog either but I am more prone to believe that the mother didn't let him do it on purpose. Anyone who has kids knows that first of all 4 years are busy and they are fast.. When my niece comes over I let her watch t.v. in the living room while I do dishes in the kitchen.. Stuff happens.. Be more concerned about the children and animals that don't have food in this world or families... And again accidents happen..

just me#2 just me6-16-2009 @ 2:15PM

you obviously do not like children. or you do not have any. since i see you as biased and inexperienced in the 'newborn puppies and kids in the same home' department i am going to disregard your comment. it means nothing to me....

anybody who thinks kids can be watched 24/7 care to comment?

Patrick#3 Patrick6-16-2009 @ 11:52PM

So what would have happened if the kid decided to give himself a bath in the tub and drowned. You're comments would be different like "where were the parents", or "they should be charged with negligence", but because its a puppy you all say its not the parents responsibility. Think outside the box sometimes, if the kid did this unattended what else could happen. Give him a box of matches and then see whose fault it would be.

mike#4 mike6-17-2009 @ 2:50AM

if you have a kid WATCH it. Be responsable , or dont have a child. Dont make excuses...just do it.

Marie#5 Marie6-17-2009 @ 8:34AM

So here is the deal....Those of you who have degraded both this child and his mother are pathetic! Kids will be kids whether they are being watched or not. I have 4 kids that I practically follow every where they go and they still get into mischief. It happens! It has nothing to do with common sense or that his mom is an irrisponisble mom. I'm sure you all did things that you weren't supposed to you are all just too prideful and immature to admit your wrongs. No parent or person is perfect. We will all make mistakes, and we will all learn from our mistakes.

kameo029#6 kameo0296-17-2009 @ 8:25AM

I have two kids... and their was no way I could keep an eye on them 24/7 when they were 4yrs. They are now 8 and 11 and it is even harder to keep up with them. Kids at the age of four have a unique way of thinking. Nothing that they do is on purpose its all out of curiosity and wanting to learn.

carol#7 carol6-22-2009 @ 5:23PM

I have raised 5 kids of my own and many foster children, and well as breed yorkie pups, first of all my word to the lady that says dont worry about the dog, WHAT ARE YOU CRAZY LADY! Just because you have kids does not mean you dont have animals. If you cant afford both then dont have them. But as for the puppy, it did no wrong, the kid is 4 for goodness sake, and accidents do happen, but if there are no accidents then there would be no lessons to learn from it. You have to teach and watch and think about your actions, you have to teach your children right from wrong and except the accidents that do happen but we can have animals at the same time. God Bless that poor little puppy, lucky is more like a name for that sweet little fellow. 24/7 can never happen, and I can bet you do not watch your kids 24/7 either.

Well done, Roto-rooter. I am glad you still do toilets, I was beginning to think all you did was Hollywood star's hairdos.

I am a responsible dog breeder, The answer is that litters need to be kept away from the hubub of kids and so on, They should be in a litter box with side rails, they should have an exersize pen
( about $100 at a pet shop) aroound the litter box, with a sheet on each side to give the mom that "den privacy'.It is best to put a litter in a spare room if posssible.

Any book you read says that small children should not be left alone, with pets it is to protect the dogs fro the inhumane things that thay do without knowing the effect,
I have heard of bobbie pins being stuck in the ear cannal and things being pushed up the nostrils, The worst lesson a parent learns is that the dog gets tired of the abuse, and finally bites the kid or growls when the child approaches.
Of course, the poor dog now gets sent to the poiund, and has been labled a child hater! The kid will go on to drive the next pup crazy until they get one that can withstand whatever happens to it without repercussions. The best advice on this is that your pup or dog could be crated with toys and chew sticks, when the parents are not present in the room to train both the dog and child how to act with each other.

some of you people are so stupid, 4 year old doesn't know what he is doing if somebody is stupid it's the parents but it was a quite expensive flush - they didn't have to go get help yet they did...

gab#12 gab6-16-2009 @ 2:41PM

Your stupid if you think that kid didn't know exactly what he was doing. I think we all know that the mother didn't care.

gab#13 gab6-16-2009 @ 2:51PM

sorry....you're

Tena#14 Tena6-17-2009 @ 7:35AM

I'm with you, it's not the childs fault...it's the parents, for not watching the child. Their the ones that are stupid for leaving the child unattended it could have been worse then a puppy in the toilet... the child could have gotten hurt or worse. So you people need not blame the child hell all small kids put things in the toilet they don't know any better so if you want to pass blame then put it where it belongs...on the parents.

jackie#15 jackie6-17-2009 @ 9:08PM

It seems like most everyone is missing the whole picture...Children have to be taught..Like I said before, I have taught my children about life and life experiences..The child is 4, he should know at this age between right and wrong. You teach your children about guns and stranger danger..People seem to forget about kindness and responsibilty. No, we don't hit our friends, we dont' tell stories that aren't true..WE KEEP OUR HANDS, FEET, to ourself, your tongue belongs in your mouth..WE have 2 small chihuahua, the smallest one is barley 2 pounds...we got her at 6 weeks weigh 4 ozs..My girls have never hurt are tired to hurt the dogs. For about a week they wanted to pick the puppy up...I SAID NO..If they continued..I SMACKED theirs hands...and said NO..she(puppy) is too small and you can HURT her. They learned...It is our jobs as parents to teach the children and YES at 4 he is way to old to put the puppy in the toliet. Does he take a bath in the toliet? My 3 year old knows that poo/pee goes in the potty and you BODY goes in the tub! No, I don't abuse my children and rarely do they get spankings...but there are times, that time-out and grounding do not work.

Leslie#16 Leslie6-16-2009 @ 2:31PM

Yes, as a matter of fact, I do care to comment. I don't think that anyone here is necessarily saying that children can be supervised 24/7 down to the very second, but as a conscientious mom of 4 (one in college, 2 y/o twins and an almost 4 y/o) I am VERY aware of where my children are during the day! (excluding the one in college...LOL) If I have to leave the room that they are in for a minute, even just to use the restroom, there are safety gates in place that assure me that they will be in the same place when I get back. Furthermore, if I had newborn puppies in my home, you could BET that they would be kept in an area that my toddler could not easily access them without mom or dad present. It's simply a matter of common sense IMO. Newborn puppies kittens are fragile, and should be offered protection for the first weeks of life. Thank God little Dyno is doing okay...

Tanya#17 Tanya6-16-2009 @ 2:40PM

For all of you non-informed pet owners out there, please get your dogs and cats spayed or neutered! Unless you are a reputable breeder, there is no need to bring unwanted pets into this world. It is a valuable lesson for you as well as your children when something like this story brings out things that can happen to newborn baby animals. If you are trying to teach your children about babies or what have you, please take them to the zoo. If you're trying to teach your children responsibility, the best thing you can do is to have your pet fixed!! And adopt from a shelter!!!

Heather#18 Heather6-16-2009 @ 2:41PM

retro i totally agree with you. and just me it's not about not liking kids it's about completely the parents who don't teach them!!!! it's not the kid's fault, he didn't know any better. but if you're irresponsible enough to let your dog get pregnant because you couldn't find the time to have her spayed, the least you can do is protect the lives that were created because of it!

if that were a human baby put into that kind of danger, those people would have every protective agency within a hundred mile radius on them like flies. unfortunately, because the victim has four legs and fur it becomes a cutesy-little human interest story.

TEACH YOUR KIDS TO RESPECT ANIMALS!!!!!!!!

Tami#19 Tami6-28-2009 @ 1:17AM

Amen to that.

monific1#20 monific16-16-2009 @ 3:03PM

This is why some people are just not equipped to be parents! And this is the reason why some people should just not have kids! Where were the parent when the kid was holding the fragile week old puppy? kids THAT young should NEVER hold puppies 1 week old. Not even supervised!!! That mother was a moron!!
